NCEdCloud Discovery Education — Accessing Discovery Ed Through NCEdCloud SSO

How NCEdCloud Connects to Discovery Education?

NCEdCloud Discovery Education is a digital content platform providing K-12 instructional resources, videos, and virtual field trips used widely across North Carolina school districts. When your district has licensed Discovery Education and configured it in NCEdCloud, a Discovery Education tile appears on your dashboard. Clicking it signs you in automatically via SAML SSO without requiring separate Discovery Education credentials.

NCDPI’s RapidIdentity platform handles the authentication handoff. The most important thing to know is that your Discovery Education access is tied to your district license — the content and features you see depend on what your district has subscribed to, not individual account settings.

How to Access Discovery Education Through NCEdCloud?

  1. Log in to ncedcloud.mcnc.org with your NCEdCloud username and password.
  2. On the dashboard, find the tile labeled “Discovery Education,” “Discovery Ed,” or “DE.”
  3. Click the tile. NCEdCloud passes your identity to Discovery Education via SAML.
  4. Discovery Education opens and signs you in to your district account automatically.

Teachers see a different interface than students. Teachers have access to content management, assignment creation, and class management features. Students see their assigned content and any teacher-assigned resources.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a separate Discovery Education login if I access it through NCEdCloud?

No. The NCEdCloud tile handles authentication via SSO. You do not need a separate Discovery Education username or password. If you are ever prompted for one, close that window and relaunch from the NCEdCloud tile.

Can students access Discovery Education at home through NCEdCloud?

Yes. Students can log in to ncedcloud.mcnc.org from any internet-connected device and click the Discovery Education tile. The SSO works from home the same way it does at school, as long as the student has their NCEdCloud credentials.

My Discovery Education tile shows content from the wrong grade level. What should I do?

Grade-level content in Discovery Education is tied to your account’s role and grade assignment, which comes from NCEdCloud data. If your grade level is wrong, contact your IT coordinator and ask them to verify the role and grade attributes on your NCEdCloud account.

Discovery Education loads, but my teacher’s assignments are not visible. Why?

Assignments in Discovery Education are created and published by teachers within the platform. If an assignment is not visible, it may not have been published yet, or there may be a sync delay. Ask your teacher to confirm that the assignment was published. If it was, wait 15 minutes and refresh.

Is Discovery Education available during the summer through NCEdCloud?

Access during summer depends on your district’s license and whether summer accounts remain active. Many NC districts suspend student account access during the summer. Contact your district IT office to confirm summer access policy.
