What is NCEdCloud?
NCEdCloud is North Carolina’s statewide education identity and application platform, managed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). It gives every student, teacher, and staff member in the state’s public schools a single login for their educational tools. It’s powered by RapidIdentity, an identity management system built by Identity Automation.
At its core, NCEdCloud is a single sign-on (SSO) hub. Once you log in, you can launch Canvas, Google Workspace, PowerSchool, Discovery Education, HMH, SchoolNet, and dozens of other applications without entering separate credentials for each one. Accounts are provisioned and updated nightly through a roster sync from PowerSchool and Home Base, so new students and staff appear automatically as the school year begins.

NCEdCloud Login URL
The primary NCEdCloud login address is my.ncedcloud.org. This URL works for all user types: students, teachers, staff, and parents. Bookmark it directly rather than searching for it each time, since search results sometimes surface unofficial or outdated pages.
Two related addresses support the platform but aren’t used for manual login:

If your browser redirects you to idp.ncedcloud.org when launching an app, that’s normal. The Identity Provider handles SAML authentication in the background. You don’t need to interact with that URL manually.
Your Username: Pupil Number or State UID

For teachers and staff, it’s your ten-digit State Employee UID, the same number used in Home Base and payroll systems. If you don’t know yours, your school’s front office, your Finance Department, or anyone with a Help Desk role in NCEdCloud can look it up.
How to Log into NCEdCloud?
NCEdCloud supports four authentication methods. Which ones are available to you depends on your user type and how your district has configured its settings.
Method 1: Username and Password
This is the standard method for all users. Depending on your district’s current login screen, you may see a single combined form or a traditional two-step flow where you enter your username, click Go, then enter your password on the next screen and click Go again. Either way, the credentials are the same.
As of July 1, 2026, Multi-Factor Authentication is mandatory statewide for all employees at login, not just those with privileged roles, so staff should expect an MFA prompt every time they sign in. Password complexity requirements are set by NCDPI and shown directly on the password creation screen. Check that screen for the exact current rules rather than relying on a fixed rule of thumb, since requirements can be updated.
- Open a browser and go to my.ncedcloud.org.
- Enter your username (your Pupil Number or State UID).
- Enter your current password.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to sign in.
- If prompted, complete the MFA step by entering your TOTP code or approving the WebAuthn prompt.
- Your Applications dashboard loads. Click any app tile to launch it.
Method 2: QR Badge Scan
QR badge login is designed for PK-5 students, who officially cannot self-claim or reliably type a password. Each student is issued a printed badge with a unique QR code. A teacher or aide holds the badge up to the device camera, and the student is logged in immediately. This method requires the school to enable badge login in district settings. No password entry is needed.
- Go to my.ncedcloud.org on a device with a camera.
- Click Sign in with QR Code on the login screen.
- Hold the student’s printed QR badge in front of the camera.
- The camera reads the code and logs the student in automatically.
Method 3: Google SSO
If your district has linked Google Workspace for Education to NCEdCloud, you can click Sign in with Google and authenticate using your district-issued Google account. Personal Gmail accounts don’t work; only district accounts ending in the school domain, for example @wcpss.net or @cms.k12.nc.us, are accepted.
- Go to my.ncedcloud.org.
- Click Sign in with Google.
- Select your district Google account or type your district email address.
- Complete Google’s authentication prompt.
- NCEdCloud receives the identity confirmation and loads your dashboard.
Method 4: WebAuthn / Biometric
WebAuthn lets you log in using a device passkey, fingerprint, or facial recognition, and NCEdCloud officially supports it as an alternative to TOTP codes for MFA, including Yubikeys, Apple Touch ID or Face ID, and Windows Hello. TOTP remains the default method, but individual users or administrators can enable WebAuthn instead. You must enroll your device through NCEdCloud’s security settings before using this method. Once enrolled, click Sign in with WebAuthn and approve the biometric prompt on your device.
- Ensure your device is already enrolled for WebAuthn through NCEdCloud security settings.
- Go to my.ncedcloud.org.
- Click Sign in with WebAuthn.
- Approve the biometric or passkey prompt on your device.
- NCEdCloud verifies your identity and loads the dashboard.
NCEdCloud Login by User Type
Students
Students use a username and password, or a QR badge. Student usernames are Pupil Numbers. Students in grades 6-12 can optionally self-claim their account before first login. Students in grades PK-5 cannot self-claim and instead use badge login or teacher-provided credentials. Teachers and Staff
Teachers and staff use username and password, with their username being their State UID. Staff accounts are provisioned through Home Base. As of July 1, 2026, MFA is mandatory statewide for all employees, using TOTP by default or WebAuthn as an alternative. Parents and Guardians
Parent accounts are district-managed. Parents receive login credentials directly from their school district, usually through a letter home or the district’s parent portal. Parents log in at the same URL, my.ncedcloud.org, using the provided username and password. Account claiming is required before first use. Administrators
LEA Administrators, LEA Help Desk staff, and other privileged roles log in through the same portal as everyone else. After login, admin-role users see additional modules in their dashboard, including the Requests module and data management tools. MFA has been mandatory for all privileged roles since 2019. The Post-Login Dashboard
After a successful login, NCEdCloud displays the RapidIdentity Applications dashboard. Your assigned applications appear as tiles, each labeled with the app name and icon. Clicking any tile launches that application through SAML single sign-on, so no separate login is required for most integrations.
The top navigation typically includes your profile name and account settings access. From settings, you can change your password, update challenge questions, and manage MFA enrollment. Your school or district assigns applications. If an expected app is missing, contact your school help desk to request access.
NCEdCloud Login on Mobile
NCEdCloud works on smartphones and tablets through a standard mobile browser. Open Chrome on Android or Safari on iOS and go to my.ncedcloud.org. There’s no dedicated NCEdCloud mobile app. The browser-based interface is the supported mobile experience.
On district-managed iOS or Android devices enrolled in an MDM, the login process is the same. On Chromebooks specifically, if your device is set up with a district Google account and Google SSO is enabled, you may be automatically redirected to Google authentication rather than seeing the username and password form.
