What Is NCEdCloud QR Code Login?

NCEdCloud QR code login is an authentication method that allows young students — primarily in grades PK through 5 — to log in to NCEdCloud by scanning a printed QR badge instead of typing a username and password. NCDPI’s RapidIdentity platform supports this feature to address the reality that young children cannot reliably type complex login credentials.

The QR badge is a physical card generated by the classroom teacher from the NCEdCloud admin tools. When scanned with a district device’s camera, the badge automatically authenticates the student into NCEdCloud. The most important thing to know is that QR badge login is managed entirely by the classroom teacher — students do not set it up themselves.

How QR Badge Login Works?

The classroom teacher generates QR badges for each student from the NCEdCloud teacher tools or admin console.
Each badge encodes that specific student’s identity token.
The teacher prints and distributes the badges — often laminated and attached to a lanyard, ID card, or kept in a classroom folder.
When a student needs to log in to a device, they open the NCEdCloud login page on the device.
The student selects the QR code login option if it is not the default.
The device camera activates. The student holds their badge up to the camera.
NCEdCloud reads the badge and authenticates the student immediately — no password required.
The student’s dashboard loads.

Who Sets Up and Manages QR Badges?

Teachers with the appropriate role in NCEdCloud generate and print QR badges for their students. The process varies slightly by district configuration, but generally involves:

Logging in to NCEdCloud with teacher credentials.
Accessing the badge generation tool from the admin or class management section.
Selecting the students who need badges.
Print the generated PDF of badges.
Distributing physical badges to students.

When a QR badge is lost or damaged, the teacher regenerates and reprints the badge from the same tool. The old badge is invalidated when a new one is issued.

Do QR badges work on all devices?

QR badge login requires a device with a working front-facing or rear camera capable of reading QR codes. Most modern Chromebooks, iPads, and Android tablets support this. Older devices without cameras or with non-functioning cameras cannot use QR badge login — those students need a password alternative.

Can a teacher print QR badges for an entire class at once?

Yes. The NCEdCloud QR badge generation tool allows teachers to generate badges for all students in their class in a single print job. The output is typically a PDF that can be printed and cut into individual cards.

Are QR badge logins tracked? Can a teacher see who logged in?

NCEdCloud’s authentication logs record login events. An LEA Administrator can review login history. At the classroom level, the standard NCEdCloud interface does not provide real-time per-student login tracking for teachers.
