Does NCEdCloud Work During Summer?

NCEdCloud summer login remains technically operational during the summer break, and the platform at ncedcloud.mcnc.org does not go offline. However, whether your Account allows login during summer depends on your district’s access policies and whether your Account remains active during the break.

NCDPI’s RapidIdentity platform keeps accounts provisioned unless a deprovisioning event occurs, such as a student withdrawal, graduation, or an LEA-initiated summer suspension. If your Account is still active, login succeeds. If your district has suspended student access for the summer, you will see an authentication error or a message indicating the Account is inactive.

What Happens to Apps During Summer?

Even if your NCEdCloud login works during the summer, individual application access depends on each app’s own licensing and configuration. Some considerations:

Google Workspace and email typically remain accessible since districts manage this separately
Canvas courses may be archived or closed for the summer term

Preparing Your Account for Summer

Staff returning in the fall should update their password before summer if it will expire during the break. The 90-day staff password expiry cycle continues during the summer. A password that expires on August 15th will block login when you return in late August. Change it proactively before the last day of school.

Students returning in the fall should note their username and keep it somewhere accessible. Username recovery requires school staff who may not be immediately reachable during the summer.
