NCEdCloud SchoolNet — Accessing SchoolNet Assessment Tools Through NCEdCloud
How NCEdCloud Connects to SchoolNet?
NCEdCloud SchoolNet is NCDPI’s statewide assessment and instructional improvement platform, used by North Carolina teachers and administrators to create assessments, analyze student performance data, and align instruction to curriculum standards. Because SchoolNet is a state-operated system, it is tightly integrated with NCEdCloud.
Staff accounts in NCEdCloud are automatically provisioned for SchoolNet based on role data from Home Base. NCDPI’s RapidIdentity platform handles authentication via SAML SSO. The most important thing to know is that SchoolNet access is restricted to staff. Students and parents do not have SchoolNet tiles on their NCEdCloud dashboards.
How to Access SchoolNet Through NCEdCloud?
- Log in to ncedcloud.mcnc.org with your staff NCEdCloud username and password.
- On the dashboard, find the tile labeled “SchoolNet” or “NCEdCloud SchoolNet.”
- Click the tile. NCEdCloud authenticates you to SchoolNet automatically.
- SchoolNet opens to your educator dashboard with your assigned schools and classes.
Teachers see their class rosters and assessment data. Administrators see school or district-wide data depending on their role level.

Why Your SchoolNet Tile May Be Missing

Common SchoolNet SSO Issues
| Problem | Fix |
| SchoolNet shows no students or classes | Verify your school assignment in Home Base data |
| “Access denied” after login | Role permissions in SchoolNet need updating — contact LEA admin |
| Assessments from the wrong school are showing | Account school assignment mismatch — contact IT |
| SchoolNet loads slowly or times out | SchoolNet is a reporting platform — complex reports take time; try off-peak hours |
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I access SchoolNet without going through NCEdCloud?
SchoolNet does have a direct URL, but the recommended and most supported access method is through the NCEdCloud tile. Direct URL access may require a separate login or may not be available depending on how your LEA has configured the integration.
Why do my SchoolNet class rosters not match my current classes?
SchoolNet rosters are pulled from PowerSchool via the Home Base data pipeline. Roster updates depend on how frequently your district syncs enrollment data. If new students were enrolled recently, the update may take 24 to 48 hours to propagate to SchoolNet. Contact your technology coordinator if rosters remain wrong after 48 hours.
Can I create assessments in SchoolNet for students in other schools?
Your SchoolNet access is scoped to the school or schools assigned to your account in Home Base. To create or share assessments with other schools, you need either a district-level role or your LEA administrator needs to adjust your school assignments.
The SchoolNet tile is on my dashboard, but it gives an error when I click it. What should I do?
Clear your browser cache and cookies and try again. If the error persists, try an incognito window. If it still fails, contact your LEA help desk with the exact error message you see so they can check the SSO configuration for your account.
Do substitute teachers have SchoolNet access through NCEdCloud?
Substitute teacher access varies by district policy and how substitutes are provisioned in Home Base. Long-term substitutes with a full staff record in Home Base may have NCEdCloud accounts with SchoolNet access. Day-to-day substitutes typically do not. Contact your LEA HR or technology office for substitute account policy.
